Ambrosius Holbein [1495-1519] painter and book illustrator, was the elder son of Hans Holbein the Elder and the brother of Hans Holbein the Younger. He was apprenticed in his father's workshop in Augsburg. When the workshop was broken up in 1514 he went to Basle together with Hans the Younger. In Basle he received several commissions. He apparently died about 1519 before reaching maturity as an artist. - Web Gallery of Art
